I think that a relationship would be second on the list to finding help and guidance for his condition really. Anybody who is suffering from such severe depression should be seeking to find the root of their problems rather than masking it with a relationship thats doomed to fail. After all, In my opinion it is impossible for someone to fall in love with you until you love who you are...

This is so very true. Most of the time you just never know on the beginning. It's only after you're "hooked" do you find out.

If he is funny and smart I may never realise he is severely depressed or suicidal. I will probably date him if I like him. But eventually this will be a bumpy road when his severe depression begins to show. If I like him enough I might stick it out until I can't no more.
