Do you think junior high students should be taught how to give CPR in school?

I heard in the news where a little girl (she must have been nine or ten) gave it to her friend who started choking on a piece of candy. She also first gave the Heimlich maneuver and when she set her down, she wasn't breathing, so she went into CPR and kept it up until the ambulance came. When she was asked where she learned all that, she said proudly, "Girl Scout camp!" Not all little girls are Scouts, but it's a good thing to know!

Sounds like a good idea however, as a nurse I get rather irritated when someone who knows little to nothing thinks he/she knows more than they do and they insist on acting on what they think they know. If CPR is not properly administered irreparable harm can be done to the patient therefore one must recertify annually in order to keep up one's skills. Also, the procedure has changed from time to time so keeping up is imperative. Just saying.

@WordGirl people that age should be taught that sex is dangerous sometimes, the amount of pregnant teens is proof of this....

singleman yes it is always a good thing to know if you are alone with a person who takes ill and have nobody round even if you start it till help comes it may make a difference that person living or not the only thing on the minus side is what sort of age group are we talking would they have the capability to be able to learn and actually do it

I was taught in gym class. I'm expired on my certification, but still remember what to do. I read that if you are alone, now you just worry about compressionand don't do the stop to inflate their chest. Is that true?

And younger kids should be taught how to properly use 911 .

yes we should learn CPR.We don't get sex ed til 9th grade
