Why are people so eager to tell everyone about themselves and to give their opinion? Do you think there is something to gain by telling everyone everything about you?

Because we hope that at least one person would be able to understand how we feel.
It's just a way to reach out, to feel less alone.
Assuming you're talking about posts of course.
When people do that in comments on posts, I'm just like ummmm I've got nothing to add.
