Yes. Idk why. I need to definitely throw lots of stuff out as I hardly use any of it

PatKirby · M Best Comment
I used to, not anymore. What caused the change? Beginning the process of selling my house and moving has taught me that most of the things I've kept over decades are really of nostalgic value. Not practical value. Making peace with what amounts to nothing more than a sentimental memory has taught me how to let go of things, and appreciate the memory itself. Besides, these accumulations take up a lot of space.

If you haven't used or wore an item in more than a year, throw it out, sell, or donate it. Someone else can make better use if it.

@PatKirby Yes! This! A recent move taught me exactly that same thing I didn't need a lot of what was hanging around. While some things were sentimental, they were actually more a burden than a blessing. Other things held no value at all. So out the door it all went - donations, consignments shops, etc. I will continue to purge regularly.

@LadyBronte

Was it easy for you? Did you feel like it was a long overdue? Did the more you release from ownership and let go bring a kind of good vibe? The more I let go, the more the house echoes tell me I'm closer to selling my house and moving to my new country. I discovered something new, something good - some of those sentimental things I had not made peace with and having to make a decision about it forced me to confront the memories it represented (some of which were unpleasant). But once I got past it, the actual decision became pretty easy.

Weekdays I gather them in boxes to throw away at the work dumpster, while the weekends I really dig in to the bigger stuff to take to the city dump. Keep what you really need, and if you really take an honest look at things they amount to only just a few suitcases altogether. That's You. Oh and thanks for the BC!

Very much so: I might need them one day.

I am very gradually chipping away at the clutter, much of which is by accumulated duplicates.

@ArishMell A little at a time cam make a big difference!

That's what that drawer in the kitchen is for 😂
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@afreshstart77 You can't have much if it's only a kitchen drawer. Unless you have some reeeeeally BIG kitchen drawers! Hahaa. My goodness....you're a blast from the past. Nice to see you again, Cowboy. How ya been?
afreshstart77 · 61-69, M
@LadyBronte It's one of those drawers that when you put something in the front, something at the back falls out! It never seems to fill up 😂

Yeah, its been a couple of years now. When I met you 16 years ago, you were sitting at work all day chatting to me on EP (I'm surpised you never got fired :) Now look at you . . . all grown up. Hope all is well?
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@afreshstart77 16 years ago?! Thanks for making me feel old! Hahaaa! I had a cushy job back then I got all the paperwork done, chatting all day wasn't frowned upon. And you were gearing up for walkabout. Lol. Those were the days.

All is well. Taking it a day at a time - making mental notes of happy moments and moving on.

Yes, the top of my closet is full of pc part boxes and old graphics cards
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Jessmari Will you ever use them?
Jessmari · 46-50, T
@LadyBronte With the current price of things I fear I might need to use them that as replacements.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Jessmari I get that.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Yes. 🙁 Boots and pants I really liked and sort of keep as a template. I know I probably won't ever have custom made boots but if ever, I'd love that design.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@CrazyMusicLover Never say never.
No ..I'm constantly getting rid of things I have no use for
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Chern0bylplaygr0unds That's awesome! I just had a huge purge with a move.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
I do for a while then I get sick of them and start to purge
Atari2678 · 41-45, M
@Justmeraeagain dust yourself off and start all over again .
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Justmeraeagain I used to take it in cycles like that, too.
exexec · 70-79, C
Things just accumulate. I donated a lot of clothes a while ago and donated two heavy bags of books to the library last week. I'm making progress.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@exexec Yes, it does before we realize. As long as there's progress, it's all good.
ninalanyon · 70-79, T
Of course!

Sometimes it's because though they are useless as they are they can be repurposed. Sometimes because they have sentimental value.

Usually because I'm utterly convinced I'll find a use for them later regardless of how much evidence there is to the contrary! :-)
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@ninalanyon I hope you find a use for it all.
That's a supply of bits & bobs I'll someday need.😅
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@SethGreene531 I understand that!
@LadyBronte 😅

For every 3rd home that's ever had a yard sale, there's someone out there now in desperate need of whatever was in that dusty box they sold from the attic 😆
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@SethGreene531 I don't doubt it! 😂
Only a little...🥺
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@DancingStarGoddess A little is just being human.
Musicman · 61-69, M
Yes I do. I guess from nostalgia. 🤷‍♂
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Musicman I understand that.
