Don't I have the right to get angry if my husband shares the breakdown of our budget with his parents?

Because I believe some matters, especially our finances should remain private between us as a married couple. I understand that he values his parents’ advice, but I’m not comfortable with our personal information being shared or their opinions influencing our relationship. I’d prefer that we work through these things together first.

His parents have no part in our living expenses and they don't help us in any way, including paying for our bills or anything else we may need.

@GunFinger you should ask to see their finances ;)

@GunFinger Then this is on your husband. The only person he should have been consulting was you. Even if his dad runs the reserve bank, you are the first person he seeks permission to discuss your joint finances with. If he was a doberman, a whack across the nose with a rolled up newspaper would draw his attention to the problem. How you choose to deal with it is your business..😷

Yeah, I agree with your point here. At some point he has to let go.
GunFinger · F
@ineedadrink I hope he learns. His parents think they're our financial advisors.
Livingwell · 61-69, M
I'm with you. They don't need to know. 🤗
GunFinger · F
@Livingwell thank you.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
I think so under most circumstances
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
My soon-to-be ex was the same way .. never sat well with me
JohnnyNoir · 61-69, M
That umbilical cord needs to be cut.
GunFinger · F
@JohnnyNoir good things he's not on the tit anymore.
JohnnyNoir · 61-69, M
@GunFinger are you sure
GunFinger · F
@JohnnyNoir shit..
Sapio · 51-55, M
I agree with you. Your finances should remain the business of you and your husband, nobody else.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
You are totally in the right here. UNLESS, you or your husband are relying on his parents for assistance in some form. Then they have a right to know what they are supporting..😷
youngman1958 · 61-69, M
Not cool, at least without getting your signoff on the idea beforehand and only then. Unless they are paying all your pills, which I doubt is the case.
Wives used to be budgeted by the family, mother in law, father in law and dutiful son, but we weren't part of the family and we didn't get to decide what we'd be allowed to spend money on. We could work and bring in money, but if we went without, well, too bad.
Ontheroad · M
That would annoy the hell out of me.
GunFinger · F
@Ontheroad how do you think I feel? I experience it first hand. He's like a child.
Ontheroad · M
@GunFinger I think he's lucky you don't toss his butt out.
He should not be sharing with them. Did he ask you before he told them?
GunFinger · F
@Sojournersoul he's always done it. He just blurts it out to his dad so they can question things that we do, especially his mother.
@GunFinger sorry. If they were paying your bills, that is one thing but they are not, so none of their business
GunFinger · F
@Sojournersoul exactly.

As long as I've been on this site, all I know is that his parents seem to be meddling in your lives whenever they want to. And he seemed to get upset if you complained about it. This guy's still under mommy's wing.
Convivial · 26-30, F
I think there are two issues here.... The sharing of info and that you have no control over it... The first I'm not sure about, the second you should definitely have veto power over
RebelRaven · 51-55, F
Umm yes, unless you agreed to it first
Sutten · 41-45, F
I agree it should be kept private between the two of you.
Musicman · 61-69, M
I definitely would be hurt and upset about it. If they are not helping you financially then they have absolutely no business in your finances.
GunFinger · F
@Musicman yup, exactly.
ShenaniganFoodie · 41-45, M
They may only query your $200 per week wine purchase
You need to smack him up the side of the head with a frying pan 🍳
