Do you think some people enjoy playing the martyr? Using a "poor little me" syndrome to gain sympathy or whatever it is they're after?

Annoying! 🧐

I agree it happens at times ..
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@BrandNewMan Yes, it does.

I think most people don't realize they're being annoying. For me, on SW I'm expressing my sincere overwhelming sense of pain/shame/struggles like a journal:vent/anguish? I'm trying to stop that because I have learned it doesn't help my depression. Sometimes I want to share simple joys and pleasures, but I think that could be annoying to people. So if I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it for my personal mental healthI also think that anyone who talks is looking for some type of interaction. Hopefully the exchange has a positive influence.

@Mindful I believe we all vent here - pain/anguish/struggle - to some extent. That isn't really an annoyance to me. I can read the post or scroll by, choose to answer or not. I personally know a couole of people whose circumstances aren't as bad as they continually make them out to be. I think they somewhat thrive on the sympathy and the special treatment their game brings them. For a while. After it wears thin, they work to secure an entirely new group of 'friend' sympathizers to carry them for a while longer. It is a cycle that repeats itself. For me, that is annoying to watch.🤷🏼‍♀

I just feel horrible
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@class Im sorry. I hope things improve soon.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
I have a few relatives who do that.
Get off your butt and try, is what I would like to shout at them
They do not realize that it is replying to people.
They never ask privately for help, they post EVERYTHING on Facebook in an attempt to have others fund their life, and when people don't respond they play the martyr.
And no matter how much you help them or advise them, it is never enough or they know better.
Annyoning is right!
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Justmeraeagain I'm sorry, but yes, this is exactly what I'm talking about.
Ontheroad · M
I do, but I also wonder if it is purposeful or more a subconscious feedback loop they get themselves into.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Ontheroad And that could be. But it never ends.
It depends on the person and their circumstances...we don't ever really know what someone is going through
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@cherny People do go through terrible things, but some exaggerate until it becomes one long, continual, never ending "poor me" charade.
Maybe some people, yes. But maybe you're slant on it lacks basic empathy.
@LadyBronte cool, my bad, I missed the "some".
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Crone67 No worries.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I don't see into people's head to know what they feel but most seem to me like they don't enjoy it.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@CrazyMusicLover I've seen a few people who I believe do enjoy the sympathy that goes with being thought a victim when they truly aren't.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@LadyBronte Yeah, maybe they enjoy the sympathy part and coddling but being a person who thinks everyone hurts them and always feels wronged in some way must be exhausting.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@CrazyMusicLover It would have to be exhausting. For everyone.
EldritchFox · 41-45, F
Or maybe they aren't having a great go at life and just want to talk about it so they feel like they exist.
