Interesting question, or I should say interesting interpretations on how people responded: some immediately went to winning material things, others to winning competitive contests.
I have to acknowledge that I have been very fortunate to have won things in every imaginable context. I've won spelling bees and scholarships; the closest I ever got to playing competitive sports was a darts league and once I won that, never played competitive darts again; and have won material things from a week's use of a Commodore Computer -- remember them? -- when home computing was just starting, to a brand new Corvette. I should put parentheses around "won" on the Corvette, since the income tax, sales tax, registration and licensure fees amounted to more than I spent for my Prius.
