I don’t think I did that, but my daughter (now 44) has twice made it a point to thank me for teaching her not to ‘catastrophize’, a word I didn’t remember ever hearing. I asked what it meant, exactly, and she said, you showed me how to be effective, not dramatic. You never screamed.

I took and take that as a compliment, although I didn’t think much of it when we were young.
