Turning each light I’m not using off. Having only one light on in the livingroom at night, unless I absolutely need more light to look for something. Closer to bed time making sure all the lights are off especially if I’m watching tv in case I fall asleep in front of it. The tv is also on a timer; if it’s idle for too long it turns its self off.
There are times where I cancel or freeze all my monthly subscriptions except for two! This helps!
I will take public transit when I can to places. I will also walk to anything that is within a 45 minute round trip ( about 20-30 minutes one way) verses driving. I drive if I have to carry a lot of things at once, like an 6/8 pack of bubbly water plus groceries.
I give myself a daily budget to spend, like $20. If I spend less on a day I put it away. Once I save enough for whatever it is I consider releasing the $20 limit.
Every pay check I split. Half of the check goes on my credit card. Half of half goes into savings and the rest is what I live on. If my paycheck is smaller than usual, I still put half on my credit card, atleast $10 into savings and then the rest I’ll live on.
I have to pay for laundry in my building so I have an extra amount of underwear and socks and PJs. I have multiples of my work outfit and multiples of casual clothing, and multiple bedsheets + pillow cases, so I don’t have to wash more than once a month. Technically more money up front but saves a lot of money for the year.
I cut out all snacks, except for fruit. If I get snack cravings other than fruit I suck it up and remind myself why I’m saving money. I’ll drink water or make tea or chew gum instead.
