Why does it take more energy for 4 wheel drive rather than 2 wheel drive if the weight of the vehicle doesnt change?

Shouldnt it be the opposite?

@jshm2 yeah but lets say the wheels are carrying 100 lbs. Each powered wheel then pulling 25 lbs. If two wheels are working then they each have to pull 50 lbs
