What’s your favorite movie adaptation of a book, and did it do the book justice?

And if you wish. Which absolutely butchered it in your opinion?


I really liked The Thursday Murder Club.

I thought kept with what I loved about the book. It's charm

I could write a long essay on this, but here are some great adaptations:

Sherlock Holmes stories (with Jeremy Brett)
Slow Horses novels (Gary Oldman)
Middlemarch (old BBC series)
The Big Short (Steve Carrell)


And one famous disaster was the Hollywood version of Bonfire of the Vanities, a novel by Tom Wolfe that is one of my favorite books. They utterly destroyed it. Someone actually wrote a separate book about about what a terrible movie it was!
