I had a field trip to Portland, Oregon today, and there were so many homeless people there. It kinda made me sad, but there was this one guy in front of Powell's Book Store who was just playing his guitar. His little sign said he was homeless, wanted to raise $18 to buy a new guitar case, and he was really good too so I have him my spare change.

Some people think they're just scams, but I'd like to think he's gonna actually buy that guitar case (his current one was pretty beat up)

I always offer food if I have it. At one point I came across a guy asking for blankets and I gave him a few I was planning on donating to goodwill anyways. Another time I put a box together with staff a roommate left behind and anything I could spare food wise and took it to a park where a lot of homeless live. If I find someone asking for money in the street its a bit harder for me to decide if they deserve it or not. I'd say definitively less than 50/50 of the times

@marvingaye @Dainbramadge Well that's very nice of you to say, thank you. He also told this super loud and tense worker from the book store to chill out, which immediately put him on my good side xD

There are indeed quite alot of homeless in portland. But once you move a bit out of the city there are a bunch of fake homeless people begging for money. ._.

[c=#008099]I once gave $200 to a poor person my brother saw me doing it and called me stupid and told daddy what happened and he got mad and told me that most of them are fakes... is it true though that they're fakes? If they are why not just find a job?[/c]

I have in the past, but typically choose who and what I give. I am more inclined to offer food than money, but it depends on the situation. Good job on your part of humanity.

Congratulations. You have a heart and a conscience. That puts you ahead of 50% of the population. We'll be expecting big things from you.

I donated time almost every week back at school helping teach self defense to women in shelter. Does that count?

That was nice of you and well thought out. I have been known to slip a fiver to a homeless person now and again.
