Old wives tales are just ideas past down, a lot of the ones that actually work we call factual good information today.
And are no longer called wives tales, but they once were... so you can't just completely ignore those, you got to judge them on a case by case basics.

My grandpa had some good ones that actually worked....like plant your sweet corn when the oak leaves are the size of a squirrel's ear. Or set a net in the harbor on the first moon in June.
