Hunkalove, first of all as I mentioned before there's no agreement on what "religion" even means. Second I'd like to know where you got those statistics regarding Hitler and Stalin. Thirdly, people have been killing each other with every justification imaginable since the world began. Sometimes it's belief in a god or gods or karma, sometimes it's an ideology, sometimes it's "keeping the world safe". And finally, there are so many people whose faith motivates them to work for peace, to live lives of kindness and generosity. However you define religion, and much as I disagree with and even fear many things that are called that, I think the world would be poorer without it.

Religion is the most evil thing that has happened to this planet. It hurts everyone. Especially the religious.

Voyelle, I am a Buddhist and I do not consider it a religion. Buddha was a human being who wanted to find the meaning of life and Buddhism is what he found. In the parts of the world where it is a religion, it's just as bad any other religion.

1. there's no proof that gods exist.
2. there's no proof that gods don't exist
3. there's no compelling necessity to postulate the existence of gods, and such a postulation explains nothing... it seeks to merely explain everything away
4. therefore I have no gods.

@supercute Atheism has nothing to do with shutting down any parts of the brain, neither does any religion for that matter. Certain religions to necessitate ignoring certain facets of science and other things, however, that doesn't mean one cannot use both their logical and creative parts of their brain, it is all how you choose to live your individual life.

@hunkalove. The answer is a new religion- not simple atheism. And a religion can be atheistic. Lots of common perceptual mistakes happen on this topic.
