@bijouxbroussard To my knowledge, portable CD players were more mainstream in the late 1990's up until the mid 2000's.
Prior to that, CD's were first an exclusively Japanese thing in 1982, before being introduced to North America in 1984.
And while many CD players in the mainstream market were stationary at the time, the first portable CD player was introduced by Sony in 1984 and exclusively in Japan.
