But in most jurisdictions, the household resources of a married couple are shared anyway, regardless of the pots you have them in.
A joint account makes it easier for moving resources around.
Additionally, titling accounts differently increases your coverage under the FDIC/appropriate insurance authority--you can have a joint acct, one in the husband's name in trust for the wife, the same with the wife in trust for the husband, etc.
