Can anyone say with certainty what this is?! 🙂

Thanks to those who have replied but I’d really like to know what it’s for. I myself suspect it’s something to do with septic tank…

It's a clean-out for whatever pipes are under the ground - storm drain or sever. if there is a problem a technician can stick a camera down there to find the blockage or a snake to remove the blockage..
@Offthetop ok thanks

It all depends on its location. It could be a stub for future septic system, water or septic tank clean out. However if there is a large pipeline nearby it could be test well as there might be wires inside for that purpose or it could be that they installed a deep well anode system if you see a metal box nearby with power to it that would be a possibility. Other things; it might provide a way to test soil / water for bad chemicals or someone stuck it in the ground just to make people wonder why it is there.

Possible septic tank lid/cap or some other underground tank - would be my guess.
@Keeper thanks

Clean out capped. Remove the cap for access to snake out drain lines
@bowman81 thank you

drain/downspout cleanout, septic access, water valve access, etc.
@wildbill83 water valve and AND septic access?
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
@NoGamesTolerated could be either, not both.

In cases where there isn't room for gravity septic system (fill lines below septic tank), the septic system must be regularly pumped, so it's just an access for septic pump truck

or

If you're supplying water to multiple points, especially water spigots that are susceptible to freezing, it's common to bury a ball/shut off valve to prevent freezing in winter; also pretty common for temporary residence water access (campers, rvs, etc.)

or

downspout/drain cleanout; runs down to a Y junction on drain pipe to allow it to be snaked/cleaned out if it gets clogged. Handy for long drain pipes where trash gets into drain (mud, leaves, etc.) or the exit of drain gets obstructed (as is the case with many people's gutter downspout pipes/drains)
@wildbill83 ohh that makes sense! Thanks Bill.
A land mine ?
