why do people that cheat on their partners get so upset when they are caught?

i can understand being embarrassed but these people have full meltdowns. if you're going to act like a complete lunatic once you're caught, why even cheat in the first place?

My partner has cheated on me before and when i caught him out he went nuts. He tried to turn everything on me. It think them going nuts stops the person being cheated on repremanding them so much like they wouldnt get a word in edge ways.
