Why are there so many seemingly normal people on here who turn out to be total weirdos when you view their profile and forums?

Idk if it’s just typical internet site or typical SW but I just had the same thing happen where I had a great conversation and connection with someone and then see a post about something that made me think I’m not sure if I ever want to talk to them again. So yeah I definitely understand but don’t know why it is so??

Would this be different than "real life" and all the people around you, though...? I think that's just how society or "the world" is. People sort of put a façade of abiding by most rules of what is generally accepted as "normal" or "civilized" behavior, but what secrets or inner fantasies they have is something else. If anything, I think your discovery of such unexpected weirdness should be a way to open your eyes to the fact that most/all people around you may not be as "normal" as you assume them to be...

It’s really strange how popular some weird groups are. Making older kids wear diapers and drink from sippy cups are the first two that come to mind, I’ve seen plenty of profiles I had put in the normal zone until I saw those groups.

This is a safe haven for “weirdos” people can be a different version of themselves that they can’t be in the real world.
