I think we appreciate art but don't realize it most of the time. You know, you see a print in a shop and you think that would look in my office, something I can look at every day and not get tired of it, something inspire me, keep grounded to my beliefs and who I am as a person. Who cares who drew or painted it, I just like it !
I go to art museums quite often, and the special exhibitions. I seem to be drawn to accurate technical drawings like an exhibition of the drawings of Venice at the turn of the century. I saw it the Ringling Museum in Sarasoat, Florida. And then, some were colorized, perhaps then, or maybe later. But I like the accuracy of paintings where the painter got the perspecitve right, and you feel you can just walk right to into the painting and join the people in the street and what they're doing.
I have a print by Andew Wyeth with the dog sleeping on the bed. If you haven't seen it, google it and see. How could you not like this painting. It draws you in, you feel it, the dog is not supposed to sleep on the bed, but he does anyway. It is a cold day, and his doggy bed doesn't have a pillow ! He is sleeping so peacfully and though he is not supposed to sleep on the bed, he is undisturbed and at peace because he knows his master is kind and will not scold or treat him harshly.
I am an art historian so my life revolves around loving art, recognising who made it and it's construction and meaning, and picking out misidentifications. Evidently I could not live without art. I spend my time traveling around the world to experience the various pieces that are left, and helping to discover the new. I think the world is art--if someone becomes captivate, or views something that makes them stop and thinking, then it is art.
@Gallantio ah da Vinci's lost The Battle of Anghiari, lovely reconstruction by Rubens! This is a breathtaking image! Supposedly the original has been rediscovered in the Palazzo Vecchio, which I hope is true because I would love to see the restored original! This image encompasses all the feeling, history, and ambition of the time :)
I wouldn't say I have a critical eye but I am easily touched by art: a melody, a poem, a dance, a picture, a painting, a scenery... can always swirl my feelings. I especially love dancing, I think I want to be a professional dancer in my next life! Lol
I can turn my critical eye on and off but when I am looking it takes a lot to really capture my imagination. I am probably most enthralled with architecture.
The world is art, I love that. I know exactly what you mean, your writing reminded me this specific piece out of the blue. I used to look at this for hours, it is breath taking.
