This is not a gun violence question

It's just a gun question. I don't even own a glue gun.

I have a phone I open with my face and an iPad I open with my fingerprint. Has anybody invented an identity lock for guns?

In the 90's a friend of mine and I (co-workers in a Silicon Valley company at the time) came up with a fingerprint ID/unlocking system concept. This included an algorithm to effectively correlate a read thumbprint against one registered in the gun. It was ultimately determined to be not feasible due to cost and potential issues should the gun should not unlock in an emergency.

Not sure if there has been any headway now, years later.
