My impression of how it is here in the U.S. is that people have become complacent about parenting. We seem to just rely on the public education system.

@Riverman2 Good point, linking the two, because a lot of what is wrong with our public education system appears to between less parental support and larger class sizes, maintaining discipline has become the over-riding primary function of teachers. I don't think it is all complacency on the part of parents as much as all the talk from psychologists about reaching out to their kids, and all the horror stories about child abuse from those who are overly strict. So they attempt to be pals with their kids all the time rather than parents, forgetting that the first responsibility of parenting is nurturing/teaching, not being best buddies. Another example of our "digital society" where everything is pushed to one extreme or the other like bits in a byte rather than finding a constructive middle ground.
