As a Homeowner, how do you maintain your home without spending a lot of money?

Since moving into my place, I’ve been conscious about how I spend my money. I have an excel sheet that keeps track of my appliances, their wattage, and the cost of consumption per hour of use. My family thinks that I’m overdoing it and my mum offered to pay for a gardener and a cleaner to help me out but I feel that it's a waste of money if I can learn how to do stuff by myself. There are some exemptions, of course.

I like how you think. I’m a lot like you. I have spread sheet and I like to calculate every year how well I do and if I’m progressing from last year

It costs me hardly anything to maintain my house because I maintain it myself or I ask for help from my family for the projects i can’t do

Like you, I would rather learn how to do it myself so I can be self-sufficient

If your mom is nice enough to offer it wouldn’t hurt to except her help once in a while 🙂

@DeluxedEdition Thank you but let’s be honest, it can be time-consuming to do all that. I’ve been researching ways to cut costs :) Also, I'm trying not to depend on my mum too much.
As a homeowner, I've found the best way to keep from spending a lot of money, is to spend a little in routine maintenance - taking a stitch in time to save nine, as it were.

There will, of course, be major expenses at some point. But those can be postponed, sometimes for years, with attention to small problems before they can develop into bigger ones.
Solar panels, and learning to DIY (especially with YT videos) helps. Don’t fret too much over maintaining…coz you’re investing in an asset. Always better than renting. 😊👍🏻
@Menetics Yes, but there are some fed govt plans that you can take advantage of…(https://www.energybillcruncher.com/la/) and it’s a long term investment, hence it’ll be worth the investment…if even it’s a bit expensive rn.

@Vivaci Thank you! I'll look into it first :)
@Menetics you’re welcome. Call up a few solar panel companies in your area and compare deals as well.

You're quite responsible. Keeping an excel and tracking subtle use is huge. Watching water, gas, cooking food as opposed to eating out, a habit of perfecting efficiency across the small things can keep your expenses smaller and help you save slowly on the way up
I say it's better to learn how to do it yourself like you are. It will save you so much in the long run. Some things require a professional so I say save your money do what you can so if something serious happens you will have the resources to pay for it.
Multipurpose sturdy items to be kept for use like cabinets that turn into tables to eat or work or paint or. Etc.

Less is more by rule.

Gud luck. Make it a home coz most are after houses only.

@sspec I already have pieces of furniture that my mum provided for me. I’m having a hard time maintaining my property. I live in an area that has HOA. So, you’ll get fined for not keeping your property in order.

Forget Greediness ,,,,,,,,,,you will HAVE to spend for beautification of the home ,aid for collection of all the small things you will need for walls and corners. ,

Ideally by earning enough to live even without having to keep an excel sheet with your consumption appliance by appliance, but good luck with that

@Elessar It's not about if you can afford to splurge or not. It's about how much you can save.
That aint over thinking it. Its being careful. Regards to learning things for yourself, youtube always helps
