The thrift store
The cadet walks into the thrift store. The owner looks up and says "Hello. Haven't seen you in these parts before."
"Yeah I'm new in town. Looking for the books!"
"In the back against the wall," the clerk quips, then goes back to his crossword puzzle.
The cadet walks through ailes of clothing, blankets and jackets, all used but in really good condition. At last he comes across a small bookshelf containing assorted volumes. One catches his eye. A book on Poe. He reaches out for it, just as another hand simultaneously grabs it. Looking around at the hand's owner, he sees a gorgeous lady, with green eyes and flowing dark hair. "Oh I'm sorry," the cadet says, "You can take it. I'll find something else!"
The girl looks at him and smiles. "You are too kind, but you take it." Her accent is not local to these parts nor to his point of origin. "I am new in town, and was hoping to find something to read until I met some people!"
"I am new here too," the cadet says, "Maybe we can go out for coffee sometime. Get to know the town."
"I'd really like that," the green eyed girl says, and they exchange numbers. She walks out of the store with a thriller book, and the cadet purchases the Poe book. He leaves, a big smile on his face, the future looking that much brighter...
