My city has become a magnet for them due to endless charity without responsibility. A young woman got stabbed in the face a few days ago here while she was waiting for a bus at a bus stop. A man was threatened the next day by a panhandler. Things are happening here due this problem on a daily basis that I would have never imagined a decade ago. The city council seems deaf to the cries of the citizens of the city. We have dozens of parks here and the transients want to take them over, they are littering up the city and sleeping on sidewalks near or in front of businesses. So many small businesses are closing up. Have never seen so many empty buildings with “for lease” signs on them. Some have been vacant for well over a year now.

@Umile I believe it very well may be this decade’s version of Block-Busting. Get the price of real estate down low enough so that investors can snatch it up and then they’ll get serious about doing something with the situation so they can resell the property at fat profits. I have heard of people coming here to relocate & scoping out real estate and then the deal falling through because they’ve seen with their own eyes what is going on in downtown (and really many other areas) of the city.
