I'll Tell You My Opinion

My mother keeps pushing me to look into native american social services to see if I can get extra help. She seems to think it's a fabulous idea because I guess benefits are available to us? First off, it just feels wrong to get free shit just because you happen to be a certain thing. Just doesn't feel right to me. Second off, I think you have to be a tribe member and I don't think I am. Third off, I can't even remember what damn tribe it even is that we are. I've been told in the past but I can't remember shit. Fourth off, I'm mixed I don't know if they would even bother with someone who isn't full.

When I was homeless she really pushed the issue saying I can get housing. Again, it just feels dirty. I am not someone to play or rely on the race card. I want to do things my own way. I know she means well but I want to work for everything myself because it means more to me than taking handouts.

You probably wouldn't be able to get any sort of benefit unless you've got a Tribal identification card. If you're not involved culturally, you don't have proof of your ancestry, and your blood quantum isn't right, you probably aren't gonna get shit.

@SW-User Yeah that's what I'm thinking you need to have the card. I know my mom has one for her
