I woke up from a dream where someone was trying to break into my house. He knew I was home, but he was still kicking the door and trying to break it.

It made me wonder if this is why Americans keep firearms at home. 馃

Yes but if an intruder knows he may face a firearm he's going to take his own which will be 'ready' and as a criminal he's going to be much more likely to use it.

@GeniUs That's just crazy, to be honest.

@LookingForTheSummer My home has been burgled and for a while I was nervous about it (they broke a double glazed window while I was out on a Saturday morning to get in, it's not a particularly quiet road!) Would I have bought a firearm if available? Probably in the heat of the moment but once you feel calmer you realise it wouldn't make a difference.

@GeniUs You have a point. I don't think buying a firearm is the right answer to this. The government must handle this issue. Not people. Do they really expect people to arm themselves for their defense, and in the end, whoever is luckier or aims better survives? Is that a jungle or what?
That won't solve anything. Violence begets violence.

@LookingForTheSummer don't get me wrong, if I'm at home and I hear an intruder in the house I'll still pick up my favourite vegetable knife to defend myself because to be honest the police don't seem to catch anybody any more and the legal system let's them off if they do.

@GeniUs Correct. And many gun owners get killed or injured by their own guns in situations like that.
