I woke up from a dream where someone was trying to break into my house. He knew I was home, but he was still kicking the door and trying to break it.

It made me wonder if this is why Americans keep firearms at home. 馃

Duh
On my community app just this week in my neighborhood we've had a couple of attempting carjackings at the gas station and a few cars or motorcycles stolen during broad daylight out of driveways or car ports.
People want to be able to protect themselves.

@REMsleep Okay, cowboy. It's just really crazy how wild it is out there.

@LookingForTheSummer Well I am in Texas 馃 but I think that crime is everywhere.

Everyone in my entire extended family keeps firearms at home except for me and my husband. And I don't not own one because I am opposed. I just haven't bothered but I plan to. Well I do own my grandmothers old pistol but Ive left it at my moms garage.

@REMsleep Howdy? 馃

Do people in Texas keep firearms mostly for protection or is it mostly because it's part of the culture over there? 馃

@LookingForTheSummer Both. Guns are part of the culture. We have several gun ranges near my house and people like to go shooting together on weekends.
Loads of people love hunting. Often there are even corporate hunting retreats and hunting safari's here.
Gun collecting is a hobby as well but even more than that its just part of our psyche.
My grandma was born in 1935 and lived in the woods of Alabama and even she was given a gun by her father when she turned 16.
It was practical.
But crime is real and criminals often get away with it. Home invasions, carjackings, random theft is very common and people don't want to live in fear that they are at total mercy of the criminals.
The Cops can't help you in that moment.

@REMsleep I love firearms, especially old ones. I also love shooting for fun. However, I don't understand why citizens must be armed to defend themselves. We pay taxes to the governments and it's their job to create a safe environment for us to live in. USA's situation is quite unique, and not in a good way, unfortunately.

@REMsleep The worst part for me is that this is happening in broad daylight, and he's so shameless that he's standing there and arguing. 馃槧
