In the movie, the marine biologist character played by Richard Dreyfuss describes the great white shark as a "perfect engine, an eating machine" and states that "all this machine does is swim and eat and make little sharks, and that's all".

Men really do think differently than women...women think differently than men, it takes a lifetime to get close to understanding what's important to each other And then both have to be willing to work things out.
Mindful · 56-60, F
@BlameBrett no instruction manual is a blessing and a curse. It's the fun of getting to know oneself and also one another if one is willing. But it's frustrating when there's a misunderstanding and you really want to work things out. But the fact that we change as we age and have more experiences also keeps us guessing over and over again. The strangest phenomena is that once we have what we think we want, what we think we want now changes too. It doesn't just happen with Toys and things. It happens with circumstances/parts of relationships.
BlameBrett · F
@Mindful I appreciate this response, and I get what you’re saying. I’ve just been through it the last few years, so at this point, I feel like I need the instruction manual before I even consider trying again. Tbink I might be better to just not try again. No instruction manual required :)
Mindful · 56-60, F
@BlameBrett That's the natural response to pain. When we hurt a muscle we stop wanting to move it. It's natural fear response to pain. It requires physical therapy and movement to heal. I'm guessing affairs of the heart work similarly. I know I don't want anymore pain in my life and I'm starting to close myself off socially in the real world. I am turning to THIS site for my social interaction. Here I get a safe distance and some closeness at the same time. I am in a healthy marriage tho. Not perfect, but happily married. People think marriage is the answer to everything. It's not. People need people. I hope you find your person, but be on th lookout for more than just your one person. Find friends and if possible connect with family.

@ElyssTTTrucks So men are just out here being too nice now? What a time to be alive. tbh I don’t really understand the term simping. Lol.
ElyssTTTrucks · 100+, M
@BlameBrett Look at many of the comments anytime anyone posts a nude woman pic. That does not entirely explain simping but it does expose a certain mindset. Born out of thirstiness and happy to toss aside personal pride and self respect.

Now, I have commented myself on some nude woman posts.
But there are some who are on just about every nude woman post and always saying the same sort of things.

I'll give a few single word answers to this.

Purposelessness
Misunderstood
Brigaded
Demonized
Isolated
Emasculated
Relegated
Underappreciated
Exhausted

I can elaborate on any of these descriptors. Thanks for asking. 🙂
BlameBrett · F
@Kodel :) pick one you’d like to elaborate on? If not that’s okay too. Good list.
Kodel · 26-30, M
@BlameBrett I'd personally go with the first one to elaborate on. A lot of them tie into a kind of response men have to how we can be treated by some women. Purposelessness is one of the main ones that is strictly about how men conduct themselves irrespective of women.

In this day and age, it's a lot harder for men to find a purpose they can pursue wholeheartedly. Back in the day, things were a bit simpler. As a result, there wasn't as much deliberation about what skill you were going to master. These days, with all the information young men get, oftentimes it leaves them a bit dejected and unsure about what role they'd like to take. Overall, men are less influenced by societal pressure and are more guided by our internal compass. With how complicated that can be to establish without treading on someone's toes, it can lead to a very apathetic worldview or potentially overly damaging worldview. One of the biggest factors is lack of male role models whilst we grow up. Many men grow up without fathers in the home or without stable male figures to guide them towards their own definition of what it means to be a man. Thus, we end up in a state where many men don't know who they are and subsequently can't find what they want. One of the most valuable skills I would encourage young men to learn is introspection. Learn to ask yourself why you think the way you think and be willing to change it if you stumble across a reaction you don't like. Ultimately, the decision is yours to structure yourself on what principles you like and don't like. It's integral for men to have this foundation because everything else we do in life will be built from this framework.
Once you have that internal compass, use it to find something you can obsessively dedicate yourself to and pursue it wholeheartedly. Purpose is the one thing that keeps men alive above all others.
BlameBrett · F
@Kodel You make some really good points about purpose and role models. I wonder though if finding purpose is really harder for men specifically or just people in general these days. I agree that introspection and taking responsibility for your own behaviour are important skills. Probably more useful than blaming an entire gender for your problems 😂
BlameBrett · F
@Prettybratbi1tch there are some good ones out there.
