If the shoe were on the other foot wouldn't you want your love to do the only right thing (to set you free)?

@rinkydinkydoink Yes, I wouldn’t want to go around like that.

Who they were is gone. Esp. If their request, it's "double tap" time.

I remember the governor in the walking dead keeping his zombie daughter chained up, hoping he would eventually find a cure., I remember thinking thats probably something i would do.
I don't think I'd have it in me.

Yes. It would take a lot of strength but at the end of the day I would hate to see them in that state, and they would not want to be in that state either.
On a related note, those who have played Telltale’s The Walking Dead game would find this a familiar dilemma.

Thank goodness the undead don't exist and I'll never need to face that choice.
Yes, It would harm me more emotionally seeing them in that state and I know they wouldn't want to exist like that.

I wouldn't want them to suffer or feel stuck just to protect my feelings, I'd feel selfish. I think I'd give them the freedom to decide for themselves.

I don’t know that the fact I had loved them would really make much difference. Unless I or another I loved were in immediate danger, it’s highly unlikely I could do away with anyone. I’d probably just cry a little harder and longer if I had to.
