Do you think people are inherently good or evil?

Rokan · 31-35, M Best Comment
Capable of both at any given time
mbai2223 · 26-30, F
@Rokan I agree

KatyO83 · 41-45, F
We all have a bit of of evil in the best of us and a bit good in the worst of us
@KatyO83 Good answer.

@SomeMichGuy I have to admit to plagiarism. It's from one of the stories in the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous.
@KatyO83 ...the only person in the Marvel universe to defeat Thanos on her own, and you had to plagiarize...?

FOR SHAME, SQUIRREL GIRL! 😉

But thanks, it shows "footnote fidelity"; giving credit where it is due. It's a great quote, and esp. in the context in which it is currently located, if it helps another, I'm sure its use is condoned.

I believe that our moral compass is developed between the ages of 0 and 6, also known as our tender years. So I don't tend to believe that we are inherently evil. However, one might disagree looking at the horrific acts of serial killers like Ted Bundy and Gary Ridgeway. But I do not feel we are inherently good either. I believe we are a product of the environment we are subjected to as children and like trees, each of us responds differently to that environment.

I think when it comes to humans this is the great debate. Again, referencing serial killers, one has to wonder what made them become what they manifested into. And to be honest, one can only wonder how anyone became who they are. But I think this topic will be a question for many years to come. Because even with all of the developments in science, psychiatry, and psychology. No one can say for certain whether we are naturally good or bad.
You mean humans or humankind? Because I think individuals are inherently good, but society is rotten to its core and corrupts most people in it.

@SomeMichGuy that's a very curious question. Somewhere along the line, something bad must have happened that is now transferred from generation to generation.
@NerdyPotato I think your analysis is flawed.

No, I think everyone is a bit of both.
Here's a relevant youtube video I saw about a week ago:

People are people. Circumstances create situations and the choices that are made are either good or evil.
Ashleighrox · 31-35, F
Definitely evil
Nah. The duality of human nature is grey. We're all born as blank slates with only survival being instinctual.

Predispositions are usually a combination of genetic potentiality, circumstance and mental response.
No. Going through the motions under privatization made people evil. The society that builds for peace will be destroyed by us.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
No. Good and evil are both subjective value judgements, therefore no one can be born with those qualities.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
I think that, in general, people will tend to be good IF it isn't a major problem for them to be so.
Selah ·
Well, we have to learn to be "good" and civilize ourselves so what does that tell you about our inclinations?
TexChik · F
I have seen it both ways, yes. Evil exists, as does good.
mbai2223 · 26-30, F
@TexChik alot of evil be within people they be demon possessed
Both. And evil so digs the lifestyle capitalism imposed. Evil is all there is, now.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
We all have the potential to be either.
Isthisit · F
