“We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Arabia. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton.

We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here.

We privileged few, who won the lottery of birth against all odds, how dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state from which the vast majority have never stirred?”

@newjaninev2 i don't care for his statement.

the potential unborn people could also be terrorist new hitlers and dictators.
also even if they were born smarter than newton or greater poets than this keats, if they are bron in a poor family with no opportunity in america. or in a poor country. what if they are born to a teen mom that gets kicked out by her family.
the smarter than newton guy is screwed.

i'd say its the other way around, the unborn should be happy they don't have to go through the dreg of our society and pain that comes with living.

@popmol You can say that... because you were born

@newjaninev2 grass is always greener on the other side. but i think i'm objective that if i had to choice between not being born and living with depression autism and an entire youth of bullying and eating myself to death as a result i'd rather be dead.

@popmol You cannot be dead if you have not been born. If you want to swap sad tales with others, I'm sure there are many, many, people out there who would provide you with vigorous competition.

@popmol The unborn aren't unhappy nor happy as they only exist as a theory.
There is nobody that has failed to be born.
popmol · 22-25, M
@Entwistle well i mean any abortion fails to be born, or any fetus that dies before it can be born. but any "potential" children you might have had yeah no.
