When I was 18 a guy I knew put a shotgun to my face, only a broken firing pin saved my life, a friend was with me and watched it, he said I didn't even flinch when the guy pulled the trigger and just gave the guy a stine cold glare, him and an accomplice got 25 years in prison each for attempted murder, this was backbin August 1988. Since then I vowed that if anyone ever attempted to pull a weapon on me ever again they'd regret it. When I was 31 in late 2001, my late ex fiancee's younger son pulled a knife on me, I got right in his face and demanded he use it on me before I took it away and used it on him, he went stone cold white with his eyes showing stark fear and he dropped it. He just turned 17, had about six inches on me and a brown belt in karate. He never pulled another knife on me ever again.

@NativePortlander1970 he should have gone to prison too.
@popmol He was underage at the time, any judge would have only given him probation.

@NativePortlander1970 17 though? maybe not at that time but in current time they would be put in prison or maybe a special place.
@popmol They'd still only give probation for a knife, the courts don't deem edged weapons as dangerous as firearms, even though they should be.

@NativePortlander1970 they hurt way more, also gun is more likely to be dead, sure you rather live but if i had to die by knife or gun? i'd say gun
@popmol All you have to do is watch a youtube butcher carving down a side of beef to see just how much damage a knife can do with little effort, or watch the final testing on Forged in Fire.
popmol · 22-25, M
@NativePortlander1970 haha i have seen stuff like that. but those are professionals, a kid with a knife won't end your life painlessly! it will probably be more painful!
@popmol Exactly, which is why law enforcement officers are actually more terrified of edged weapons than firearms.
popmol · 22-25, M
@NativePortlander1970 well i mean i'd be terrified of guns more, but yeah if its like 3 meters of difference a melee weapon is more frightening for sure.
@popmol If a mass killer really wanted to do some damage they'd silently ninja from the back of a crowd moving forward from behind, grabbing their mouths then shank into the heart from behind through their ribs, mass shootings are more for shock and awe.
popmol · 22-25, M
@NativePortlander1970 well that's true, one of the original usage of a gun was also intimidation! the sound! it must be frightening!
@popmol I do own three firearms myself, a .22LR semiautomatic rifle, a .380ACP semiautomatic pistol, and the same brand and model 9mm semiautomatic pistol that Bruce Willis uses in Die Hard and Mel Gibson in the first Lethal Weapon. I also did a lot of target shooting outside of Las Vegas in the desert when I lived there, and at pistol ranges when I lived in Orefon and Delaware. The sound of the report is loud, yes, and can be a bit unnerving until you get used to it.

@popmol It's alright, when I was going through candidacy with the Portland Police Department 30 years ago I got some good training and went through some classes at their range, then went through another class and training when I got my armed security license in Las Vegas.
popmol · 22-25, M
@NativePortlander1970 even scarier, you aren't a gunman but a trained gunman!
@popmol Yes and no, I was 4F (medically exempt) from the military due to my lower left leg having to be surgically repaired from a double compound fracture from a snowmobile accident. However be assured that I'd be the one protecting you and others from any crazed mass shooter, shooting back at them.
popmol · 22-25, M
@NativePortlander1970 well i'm not saying you aren't good but always fear any weapon in any hand!
@popmol You shouldn't be scared of all of us, just the ones with ill intent.
popmol · 22-25, M
@NativePortlander1970 and prey tell, how am i supposed to distinguish but bad gunman and good gun man?
@popmol The bad guy brandishes it in public and points it around haphazzardly, while the good guy keeps it concealed until it's actually needed.
popmol · 22-25, M
@NativePortlander1970 what about open carry? also smart bad guys.
@popmol Open carry is very stupid, it makes that person the first target of a mass shooter.
popmol · 22-25, M
@NativePortlander1970 i mean i prefer the no gun policy. i can look around and if i see someone with a gun and theres no police uniform its get the hell out of there and call the cops
@popmol The no guns allowed policies 9f numerous public and private places is what attracts mass shooters, because they know in pretty much most of them they won't face armed resistance from people, like myself, that do carry concealed. But let me ask you a question, where on my body do you see my concealed pistol?
You wouldn't even know I'm armed as I'm walking past you.
popmol · 22-25, M
@NativePortlander1970 thats more terrifying you know, not knowing you have a gun, you need to be careful because everyone could have a gun.
open carry is better, no one could hide their guns there won't be a surprise.

And you don't have the no gun policy i meant. i meant NO GUNS. not some random spaces where guns aren't allowed. sure those are dangerous with psychos with guns around. but if no psycho had a gun then it would be an no gun policy
