If somebody called 911 by accident how long would take it to convince them that it was only a mistake?

A woman came into the shop where I worked and asked me to call 911 for her, she needed an ambulance. I got a short message in English then a long message in Spanish. I assumed I touched the wrong button so I hung up and called again. The hospital was just 3 blocks away but it took 20 minutes to get there. About an hour later a cop arrived and said 911 had a hangup call. I forgot about the first call and said it didn't come from me. He left. 911 didn't seem to be very important to anyone.
