Talking to an SW friend we came about this dilemma...
In the movie Needful Things, a Stephen King story, a shop keeper sells things that are badly either needed or wanted.
A pain killer, a rare baseball card for example.
The only payment the shop keeper demands is a mean prank on someone else. And on and on it goes until the whole town is divided, suspicious and fighting.
Question...
If a shop like that were to open here, in SW, do you think people would go in? And if they did, would they take part in the whole prank for purchase ritual?? The prank being done against another unsuspecting SW member.
@helenoftroy2000 Ha! Right? Yeah I think I'd go in acting all proper and saintly but inside id be thinking... What do you have !!!??? Ok yes!! Thank you for the honest response 😊
No, I wouldn't take part, but I'm awful so I'd lurk in the shadows and watch from my perch like the gargoyle I am. 🤷🏾If it got too messed up, I'd probably wander away for a while.
@DancingStarGoddess I think I would definitely go in. Without the intention of participating because I'm a good person and that would be wrong. But then the dude would show me something that I really want or need. If it's something I want, I'd probably walk, but if I need it badly or someone I love needs it, yeah. Someone is getting mean pranked here.
I wouldn't go in nor have any intention. Those things always backfire because nothing good is free, it always lands you on a sell page where there's fine print. Plus why would people want to be mean to others for stupid baseball cards. If someone did that to me in a metaphorical Stephen king universe, I'd make sure they couldn't enjoy whatever they got.
@marrowengine There could be something you really need. Or a family member. Medication or whatever. Plus the pranks never seem as bad as to offset what we need. I'm not saying you would go but maybe you haven't been low and dark enough to consider it. Which is a great thing.
@Ontheroad Ahhhh very good! I've been expecting this one my friend. Thing is that the pranks seem harmless to the prankster but have a hidden mean spirit behind felt by the pranked. Like knocking on someone's door and running not knowing the person is elderly and can't really move So no one thinks they are doing any harm until later. Good thinking tho.
Sadly I think I go in unsuspectingly. I would never intentionally cause hurt or harm to another person but I suspect I manage to without trying sometimes.
@PatientlyWaiting25 I think most people would go in with the same thinking. But see the shop keeper is smart and knows what to show you that would make you think twice. Especially anything dealing with pain. I did abuse my body when I was younger, doing a lot of extreme physical things for which I'm paying now with pain. I'm sure that if he were to take away the pain I'd probably say yes.
