I just saw this on this very site

And I have issues with this quote!

I had shitty parents from birth
I've struggled with mental and physical issues all my life (even as a kid)
I was never an alcoholic or gambling addict until long after I started. And I certainly never acted like one, even after the fact.

I know the quote is ment to be inspirational, but to people like me it feels like a "pointing fingers" quote rather than inspirational.

I find inspirational quotes in general to be extremely cringeworthy.

@OlderSometimesWiser "don't face your fears! Fear your face!" 😅

And they can often be paired off to give conflicting advice.

Look before you leap, but nothing ventured nothing gained.

Sounds like scientology

I think what you are saying is true about a great many "inspirational quotes." They can be applied in more than one way, and in some cases the application is rather gloomy.

I can see how this can feel like pointing figures. Also, in the case of someone like you who has had to deal with a lot, it can sound like "oh, just get over it and be positive", as if that were easy.

@DrWatson exactly. I wish life was as easy as that, but unfortunately it isn't.

I detest those types of quotes. Not based in reality at all, but some illusion.

@Magenta I fully agree.
