These are especially bad in Mexico. They put them on the highway just before you enter town, and sometimes forget to put the warning sign up or the sign is in a different place. You see a black line across the highway and then BAM.

They removed all of them from our streets because of damage to emergency vehicles. Some still remain in parking lots.

I don't know why they're called speed bumps, they slow you down more than anything.
