Not very, but I did learn a lot about stereotyping people.
My husband was fighting brain cancer and had been for a year. I was driving home to have lunch with him and spotted a little fresh flower kiosk in a parking lot. I decided to take a little spring home to him and parked. As I was walking to the flowers, I saw the vendor, a girl maybe in her early 20s, black lipstick, eyes lined with heavy black lines, etc. I almost turned and walked back to the car. Last thing on earth I needed was bleak, dark, sorrowful.
Then she greeted me. It was, and still is, a remarkable encounter. In my 74 years, I have met precious few humans as positive, upbeat, warm, and uplifting as that young Goth girl.
As she showed me different flowers, she talked to them, often laughing in a rich mellow tone,
So I took home some daffodils and reassessed my attitude about Goths. I’d been wrong. Again.
