@4meAndyou He was in that movie Gran Torino where he sat on his porch and grouched around. He eventually made good friends with his neighbors who were Hmong Laotians and defended their son from gang members and helped them with other things.

@cherokeepatti I love that movie to bits and pieces. I think I have watched it five times!

@4meAndyou I watched in on cable tv. I like the character development and how crusty Clintwood softens his attitude up so much during the movie that he goes over and helps that family after he got to them, they were like family to him.

@cherokeepatti What I loved most was that he became a father to the boy, Thao, whom he calls "Toad". He grows to love Thao more than he loves his own son, all while being his crusty, cantankerous self.
He becomes a father to the girl, also, and when she is raped by her own cousins, he gives his life to ensure that the gang will never, ever bother them or ruin their lives again.
The obvious symbolism, at the end, when his body assumes the posture of Christ on the Cross, still makes my face flush and tears come to my eyes.

@4meAndyou I had a coworker who was born into a Hmong family but became a Christian when she was sponsored by a church along with all of her family and came over here. She would go back every few years and fill her suitcases with clothes and other things to give to the poor over there. She was from Laos.
