Pretty much anything that passes on genetic information is prone to it. But you could also take the same principles and apply it to the everchanging systems and ideals present in society.

Video killed the radio star. Internet killed the newspaper. Women couldn't fully participate in society until they started fighting for it. People used to get around on horses and now they're nowhere to be seen. Currently, online shopping is killing off retail stores
