Narcissists may be predisposed with certain inherited personality traits, however, I believe that plays a very small part, as this is a terrible mental illness brought on by environment, learned behavior, and not necessarily from parents.
Not every child raised by seemingly "overindulgent" parents will become narcissistic. Other environmental factors, like societal pressure, cultural influences, and personal experiences can also play a role in the development of narcissism.
The narcissist knows exactly what they're doing. They are master manipulators and one should stay completely away from them, if possible. The word 'narcissist' means egotistical, self-focused and vain. The biggest mistake is to think you can change them. That's not going to happen. You cannot reason with a narcissist...even Dr Phil said so. He said he and his colleagues agree that even they don't know how to cure a narcissist. He said don't even try to fix them. It won't work. That will backfire. Just stay away from them.
After breaking up with a narcissist, you should never contact them, try to reason with them, blame yourself, engage in their drama, or rush into a new relationship. Instead, prioritize no contact whatsoever, self-reflection, seeking support, and focusing on your own healing. You really have to take care of yourself at this time.
