Do you think the government should have the responsibility of protecting people from themselves.

NO!!!! THAT is a very fuzzy gray area. If someone is suicidal, it becomes a medical issue, and then the medical community takes the responsibility of protecting a person from themselves.

THEN there is that fuzzy wuzzy area that falls under the purview of social services. Drug addicted mothers, drug addicts in general, the homeless, alcoholics living on the street...and any combination of any of these with mental health issues and poverty.

We've set up some programs while setting up our society, and a LOT more care is taken to protect people from themselves NOW than was the case 100 years ago.
