I love being a laboratory TA (said literally no one ever)

Last semester we had a lab requiring students to acetyalizing rammnose using BF3 and acetic anhydride on a larger scale than done before.

Well during my section, someone got distracted and did not notice that the ice had melted when he came back and added the BF3 way too quick.

Long story short, it was like an extreme version of the old vinegar and baking soda volcano. And to make matters even better, the reaction was NOT under the fume hood lolz.

And guess who had to help clean all that up? 🥰🥰
I also had MANY instances of glassware explosions, because apparently, it is not common knowledge that you’re not suppose to pour cold water into a beaker that was heated up to 270 degrees Celsius. I love it here.

you're supposed to mix some hydrogen peroxide with dish soap, then throw some potassium iodine in it... 😉
Those are really dumb mistakes. Glass is dangerous cooled to quick.

Bah you're in your element. That element may be flerovium but still.

Ummm I not be that guy but we learn not to cold shock hot glass as children watching our moms cook in pyrex pans.

Your class sounds boss as fuck though.
