Why do you think that things that you don't use in lots of years get damaged?

Or abandoned houses start crumbling? Even if they're not that old?
Same with some shoes and clothing

Well I'm not a fashion designer or a house constructor but I know about cars. If you let them sit too long, all the parts become sedentary and break down.

It could also be a psychological thing. Like, we notice more when abandoned buildings crumble... I can think of parts of my very nice apartment building that are crumbled, but no one hardly notices because they just replaced the siding and windows.
