"South" is a direction, not a location. At the South Pole, there is only one direction: north.

The southernmost place is the South Pole, not the equator.

@CharlesRomsey small world

@Scarfface I'm not so sure, friend. There are many places I have still to visit: this world is full of wonders.

@CharlesRomsey definitely, it's an amazing place, I've not experienced much and if I didn't have to return I would love to go on an adventure.

If you're at the South Pole Town there's only north. Once you take a step north though behind you is south no matter which direction you take that step in.

@zonavar68 Well true but if you're geographically South Pole then all is geographically North. If you're magnetic South Pole all is magnetically North.
I was thinking geographically as that doesn't move (well other than infinitesimal tectonic shifts) unlike the magnetic pole which is always meandering about.

I'm a little confused. I didn't think the equator was the most southern part of the planet?
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
If you stood on the equator...extreme South and extreme North are equidistant apart.

down - deep down.
Note that south is a 2d 'direction' not a 3d 'vector'. it doesn't describe the frame of reference.

There is no south when you are on the south pole
