True. Humans can be thought of as a plague onto this planet 😷

@deadgerbil ahhhh, the "humans are the virus". A phrase handed down by eugenicists. The answer is always to "cull the human population". I reject this idea as abhorrent
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
@gol979 from Earth's perspective, that's the case though. One species spreading everywhere, causing mass extinctions, etc.
Changing how people live their lives, waste less, etc should be everyone's goal to help minimize our negative effects

@deadgerbil ok, remove half of the worlds human population, as you referred to us as a plague.....does your supposed issue(s) go away?
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
@gol979 so from like 8 billion to 4... No, as those people could still hunt things to extinction, pollute, etc
Changing how people live their lives is the way to alleviate the issues we bring to this planet, 8 billion, 4 billion, or even 100K people alive

@deadgerbil so its not humans.....its the system. Glad we agree
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
@gol979 the system is made up of people though. If a system is to change, it starts with people themselves
gol979 · 41-45, M
@deadgerbil yep. But its not going to get solved by thinking humans are a plague and we need to have a mass cull. Youve just stated this yourself
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
@gol979 so if we are to get a solution, what would it look like in your opinion? What is this system that you cite and how do you change it
gol979 · 41-45, M
@deadgerbil thats a big question with no easy answers but imagine this scenario.......as humans one of the overriding responsibility would be to tender the soil for the next generation. This change would lead to a healthier earth and humans. This dominant system we operate in is rapacious and sees nature as a commodity
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
@gol979 tending to the soil is a worthwhile pursuit. I'd assume big business is an aspect of the system you talk about. How do you get people in big business to side with you on this, when they tend to concern themselves with the short term profits to be had by exploiting the land?
gol979 · 41-45, M
@deadgerbil another massive question. How do you remove the dependency we all have on this system? I believe firstly it will come through a realisation that "representative democracy" is a sham and that (hopefully) power will devolve into smaller communities who have the knowledge of their local area. Look at the amazon pre european decimation.....a mountain of evidence that it was actually a "garden" tended by humans. Look up terra petra (self regenerating soil). We know what we need to do, we just have to have the courage to face up to it. The dominant system will put up a fight for sure but at some point we will have to face it
