yes had one for years on the camper and have a 2 wire ten gauge cable with a NEMA L5-30 plug on it that plugs into the 30 amp 120-volt outlet on the generator. another end has a welding plug with the hot wire tied to both hot blades and the neutral wire tied to the neutral blade on the plug and it plugs into the welding outlet in the house. to run the house on generator we turn off the main and turn on the welding breaker then plug the cable into the welding socket. startup the generator then plug the other end into the 30 amp socket on the generator. the whole house runs on the generator and it runs everything except for the stove and the central air conditioning compressor unit. we ran the entire house on it for the month-long blackout after the derecho went through in august 2020 and the power was out for a month. the power poles were all down from the 130 mph winds of the derecho. we used it many other times too when the power was out from storms. we also use it when camping in the camper. the generator is mounted on the back of the camper. lucky gas prices were way down because of the lockdown during the china virus pandemic. it is different plugging the entire house into the generator as if it was another appliance! the entire city was dark no lights on anywhere. other cities were dark too. 😺
I have an 8kw whole house general that I’ve needed 5-6 times, once for eight days and a 4.4kw portable that runs on either propane or gasoline that I’ve used at another house 5-6 times as well.
@redredred normally the fridge won't keep for 24 hours. some guides tell you to toss the food in the fridge after 4 hours without power. did you run it an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening?? were you able to charge your phone and laptop and rechargeable flashlights in that hour in the morning and hour in the evening? any refrigerated meat you would have to cook good and hot to kill any bacteria that started growing. even lunch meats for sandwiches need to be gotten really hot. 🍔🍟
@redredred refrigerated food only has a narrow temperature range where it will stay good. usually a full day without power at least some of the refrigerated food is going bad on you. you could use a smaller generator with an eco throttle mode for keeping the fridge going and running the tv. they don't use much gas at low loads as they run slower on small loads with the eco throttle switch turned on. 💵
@SW-User how did you like the beeping of the ups units??? did it wake you up?? did you miss the wake-up alarm since the power was out your clock radio did not come on to wake you up?? 😺
