Lots of lacewings out tonight

***warning. Bug pic

I didn’t take the picture there. That’s from an image search. I wanted reference to what I was talking about. I try taking pictures of lacewings, but they’re never clear. I have the most trouble with bright green creatures like that. Grasshoppers, mantids, and frogs as well. Such a bummer. They’re beautiful. When I was a kid, I thought these bugs were fairies. They looked so magical to me. Now when I see them, knowing what they are, I still feel charmed because they remind me of those days.

@SinlessOnslaught Note the part in my story where I say I got that from an image search. Note it.

@SW-User I was just helping you let people know
SW-User
@SinlessOnslaught Good looking out. 👍
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@SW-User Do you know how to identify a lot of bugs?
SW-User
@SinlessOnslaught No. I use a website that’s dedicated to identification for every random bug a person can encounter. I check that when I get curious, but I don’t have the personal knowledge to distinguish ones I haven’t checked before.

@SW-User Ah I see. One time when I was a child I saw a bug that looked like a twig with two twigs on top (shaped like a T) and it would randomly flap the two appendages, rather slowly, and only once every few seconds, despite staying steadily in the air. It was at a beach.

@SinlessOnslaught Something like this? (Warning- it’s also a Google pic. 😉)
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@SW-User Ummmm maybe. I don't remember it having legs nor a head.
SW-User
@SinlessOnslaught That’s odd.
You just helped me find out about another type of gorgeous moth though. 🤩 Same species as the previous pic, but this one’s wings are out. A plume moth. And I’d thought gypsies were the prettiest ones.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@SW-User That is pretty! Definitely not what I saw that day, but pretty.

Have you heard about how the industrial revolution effected the course of evolution for moths? Or maybe adaptation, I'm not sure.
SW-User
@SinlessOnslaught Because the moths being seen on bark? I think I’ve heard the story before.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@SW-User Bark, I'm not sure about. I know that moths developed a brown color after the industrial revolution.
SW-User
@SinlessOnslaught I think it’s because the soot that got on trees. Birds would find the white moths easier after that, so only the ones with the dark mutation could camouflage. Then their offspring were dark as well, so the species changed in order for their survival.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@SW-User Yep, that's it.
