@Holidaze Yes, it can be the act of coercing someone to feel that worthlessness and guilt. The gaslighting is the coercion which drags a person into that pit of doubt.

Gaslighting refers to something very specific, based on what happened in the movie Gaslight.
It refers to trying to convince someone that they are mistaken in how they recall their own experiences, and trying to convince them that the alternate version of reality that you are pushing is the true one.
"I never said that....." is a prime example.
(BTW, it's a great movie!)
