What word is better than gaslighting?

Undermining works for me.
Manipulating
Deflecting
….avoiding credibility

@cherryxblossom To me coercion necessitates an act rather than a gained feeling of worthlessness and guilt.
@Holidaze Yes, it can be the act of coercing someone to feel that worthlessness and guilt. The gaslighting is the coercion which drags a person into that pit of doubt.
Holidaze · 18-21, F
@cherryxblossom I meant that an act is required of the party injured by coercion.

Gaslighting refers to something very specific, based on what happened in the movie Gaslight.

It refers to trying to convince someone that they are mistaken in how they recall their own experiences, and trying to convince them that the alternate version of reality that you are pushing is the true one.

"I never said that....." is a prime example.

(BTW, it's a great movie!)

I don't know what a better word would be. "Revising history?"

Narcissistic. Even if one may not be a true narcissist, it doesn’t mean they can’t exhibit narcissistic behavior.

@Ducky I don't think works. If a person has been gaslighted (gaslit?) they've been narcissticked?

@Holidaze Not as a verb, no. In my defense, you didn’t specify that. lol

Undermining isn't a word. You're crazy.
