I Love Inspirational Poems And Quotes

Spring

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high over vales and hills
When all at once I saw a crowd
A host of golden daffodils
Beside the lake, beneath the trees
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze

For oft when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude
And then my heart with pleasure fills
And dances with the daffodils

I love this poem. I taught it to some special needs children and now it has a special place in my memory bank. Here is a poem I wrote a while ago after seeing evidence of fly-tipping.

I wandered lonely as a cloud- 122 years later

I wandered lonely as a cloud
As I turned my back on city thrills,
When all at once I saw the crowd
Of garbage dumped like man-made hills.
Plastic, metal, surround the trees
Laying dormant, stopping breeze.

Continuous, it assaults my eye
A blot on landscape, discarded...left
It begs the question, I wonder why
You'd leave it here, forlorn, bereft.
The flora that once did a lively dance
Now crushed beneath this poisonous lance.

All around, the birds still sing
For now they sail without a prayer
It won't be long before the sting
Penetrates deep, their life so fair
Why would you leave without a trace
This trail of rubbish, in such disgrace.

I close my eyes and once again
My memory journeys me to a time
Where waving flowers and bouquet of rain
Reach out before this heinous crime
My heart with fondness, pleasure fills
And I dance among the daffodils.

Don't walk behind me,
I may not lead
Don't walk in front of me
I may not follow
Just walk BESIDE me
And be my friend!

Author unknown (to me)

A classmate wrote it in her yearbook in 1978

Very nice. Did you write that yourself?
Ian123 · 61-69, M
@Crazychick Look under Daffodils, sometime around the 1850’s I think

@Ian123 I might have seen it before when I was about 10, I can't remember now. I've certainly heard of Wordsworth.

@Crazychick Very possibly only Home Thoughts From Abroad by Robert Browning is a better known English poem
